Fire Service Explorers Compete in State Fair Fire Challenge

MN State Fair

Every first Friday of the MN State Fair Firefighter Explorers put on their best show during the annual Governor's Fire Prevention Day. This year that day is August 25.

Carousel Park is now renamed and rebranded to Dan Patch Park after a famous MN harness race horse. Dan Patch Park will burst with activity from competition scenarios in:

  • Ladder Evolution
  • Cardiac Arrest Management
  • Spinal Immobilization
  • Public Education
  • Search and Rescue
  • Firefighter I Exam
  • Individual Gear Donning

Starting the Day By Honoring Others

Explorers take a morning break from competition to stand in formation in observance of Minnesota firefighters who died in the line of duty as the MN Fallen Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps play for the crowd. Governor Mark Dayton and Bruce West, MN State Fire Marshall are invited to address Explorers, post advisors, fire challenge judges and fairgoers. The day also includes 2 Mock Car Crash demonstrations.

Governor's Council on Fire Prevention and Control

The Governor's Council on Fire Prevention and Control is the overall host of the event. It's the belief of the Council that fire prevention efforts brought to the public in an interesting and fun way will help to reduce the amount of injury and death due to fire in Minnesota. Fire Service Explorers and their post advisors are proud to represent their community fire departments. Local firefighters are tremendous mentors to the Explorers. These volunteers share their knowledge and expertise to help the Explorers perform to the best of their abilities during this day of healthy competition.
